Tanka is a Japanese traditional form of poetry consisting of 31 syllables. In the early 20th century, writers broke away from the iImperial school and formed tanka societies, literary salons grouped around ideologies to write and share tanka. This year the writers in the Worker Writers School, founded and led by poet Mark Nowak, have formed their own tanka societies: The League of Revolutionary Workers Tanka Society and the Refugee Tanka Society (Albany). Come to a celebratory reading and see the exquisitely designed mini chapbooks produced by Josh McPhee of Just Seeds.
